Date of Passing: Jul 04, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBENJAMIN R. BROWN Ben Brown was born in Seaforth, St. Thomas, Jamaica in June of 1929. He passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2007, in Winnipeg. His main employment was as a tile maker, but it was during his job as custodian of Meadowbrook Prep School in Kingston that he met the young Canadian couple who would set his course for Manitoba. Ben landed in the rural community of Plum Coulee in April 1971. His wife Maisie and their five children, Noel, Marcia, Roxroy, Sandra and Melody, followed in May. From Coulee, Ben moved the family to St. Norbert and then further into South Winnipeg as he became employed by Versatile Manufacturing and took up membership at Calvary Temple Church. It was his great joy to return to Jamaica several times in the past decade to enjoy the places of his youth. He told many stories about food and friends and the very rich life he experienced back home. Our family is grateful to Mrs. Magetia Watson who took care of him during his last visit to Jamaica earlier this year. We are indebted to homecare health support workers and coordinator Denise Hamel for the support they provided to Ben over the last few years. Many thanks to Dr. James and Mrs. Esther Krahn, Dr. Wayne Poon, Dr. Clifford Yaffe, Dr. Ralph Wong, and the nurses, physicians and staff at St. Boniface Hospital who also gave Ben exceptional care. Ben made friends easily but he leaves us only memories to take the place of his considerable charm. Service will be held Monday, July 9, 2007, at 11:00 a.m., Calvary Temple (Buntain Chapel), 440 Hargrave at Cumberland. Arrangements: Thomson In the Park. Donations may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital and Research Foundation (Cardiac Research).
