WILLIAM BARRY ROSS We are saddened to share the news of the sudden passing of William Barry Ross on June 30, 2007. Barry was a loving husband and father, a true Professional Engineer, and avid sportsman. Born in Winnipeg on December 6, 1934, he grew up in the neighbourhood of Norwood. He excelled in both hockey and baseball and was a member of three Provincial baseball Championship teams with Norwood. His athletics earned him a scholarship to attend the University of North Dakota where he received his Mechanical Engineering Degree. It was during his last year of university that he met Valerie, the love of his life, in December 1958 and they were married on September 26, 1959. His career took them to many locations and they made many friendships in Canada and the USA. Eventually, they returned home to Winnipeg and settled into Southdale in 1970. Very active in the community, he was instrumental in the building of the Southdale Community Club and programs. Barry was an early President of the Club and was also a dedicated coach to his sons' hockey and baseball teams. He maintained a passion for sports and community throughout his life After 18 years at the Department of National Defence, he retired in 1996. He spent his retirement years learning to sail, working with the CPS Sqn, honing his golf game, cheering for the Goldeyes and the Moose and travelling. He and Val made numerous trips to the Caribbean and the United Kingdom but their travels were highlighted by a cruise through the Panama Canal and a trip to Scotland with their grandchildren last summer. Barry was predeceased by his mother Anne, his father Bill, and an infant son, Timothy in 1962.
