GEORGE MACDONALD November 22, 1921 - July 3, 2007 Peacefully on July 3, George MacDonald passed away at Seven Oaks General Hospital with his family at his bedside. George is survived by his loving wife, Catherine (Tillie); and his loving son, Donald; as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. George was predeceased by his parents, Angus and Jessie MacDonald; sister Catherine Walker; brothers, Isaac and Donald (who was killed in action in the Second World War). George was born in Winnipeg and graduated from Gordon Bell High School. He was a Piper with the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada and served overseas for five years, returning home to Winnipeg on his 24th birthday. Upon his return he joined the Winnipeg Fire Department and served for 11 and one half years. George and Tillie moved to the U.S. in 1957 and remained there for 10 years, returning to Winnipeg in 1967. He worked with Canada Post for 16 years and then retired. George had a lifelong love of sports, especially baseball, hockey and golf. He was a goaltender on the Cameron Highlander Hockey Team that won the Canadian Army Hockey Championship twice while overseas. George was a longtime proud member of Rossmere Country Club and enjoyed many games of golf with his son and many friends. George was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Fort Rouge and Imperial Veteran's Branch. George dealt with his chronic lung disease with courage and was on home oxygen for 17 and one half years without ever complaining. He fought the good fight with a smile on his face. Thank you to the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, the Seven Oaks General Hospital and all the health care providers who helped George through his illness, especially Dr. Earl Hershfield. Thank you to family and friends for their love and support throughout this time. Special thank you to George's niece, Joanne, and Ron Gillan and to Sandra and Bill Badger for their friendship and caring over the years. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. A celebration of George's life will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2007, at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with Reverend Donald Wilson officiating. A reception to follow. We will love you and remember you forever. Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 885-9715
