Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN FREDERICK (JACK) YOUNG October 1939 - July 2007 Jack died suddenly on the evening of July 7 at his home in Kenora after a brief but severe cardiac problem. Jack is survived by his loving wife Linda; his son Jeffrey Young (Danielle); and his daughter Jacqui Starr (Ken). He leaves behind four beloved grandchildren, Nik and Sam Starr, and Tommy and Jasmine Young. He is also survived by his brother David (Audrey); and his sister Donna Harrison; and his best buddy Pumpkin. He was predeceased by his parents Tom and Myrtle Young. Jack served for three years in the Canadian Air Force after high school where he developed skills as an electronic technician. He then attended the University of Manitoba, graduating as an Electrical Engineer. His professional career included work with Telesat Canada and many years with the Federal Department of Transport. Jack was an avid hunter and fisherman, and, above all, a builder and a fixer. He built his own splendid home on Black Sturgeon Lake, and was well known among his neighbours as the man who fixed electrical problems, plumbing, and almost anything else that needed repair. And he turned his leadership skills to campaigning successfully for administrative and political change in his community. Jack's untimely death will be mourned by his loving family and by his many colleagues, neighbours and friends. A gathering of family and friends will celebrate Jack's life at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 12 at the Kenora Curling Club. Flowers are gratefully declined. Funeral arrangements are in the hands of Brown Funeral Home Cremation Centre in Kenora. 468-8633.
