GLADYS ELSIE SHELFORD (nee TUCKER) Gladys passed away peacefully on June 30, 2007 at age 90. Survived by her loving husband Reginald; daughters, Elaine Sigurdson (Alan Roberton), and Barbara Robson (Richard Bond), and her granddaughters, Debbie Sigurdson (David Bolton), Andrea Vento (Paul), Jennifer, Heather and Kathryn Robson. She is also survived by her brother Austin Tucker, and sisters, Margaret Jowett (Harold) and Doris Gosskie. She was predeceased by brothers, Philip and Winston Tucker, and granddaughter Jenny. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on December 24, 1916, Gladys was the eldest child of Frederick and Ada Tucker. She graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1937 and worked for insurance companies in Winnipeg for two brief periods. She was active in the University Women's Club of Manitoba, in fund-raising efforts for the Children's Hospital of Winnipeg, and as a member of the United Church. In 1988, she and Reg moved to Victoria to enjoy their retirement years. Together they traveled much of Europe, Central America and Alaska on holidays and cruises. A friend and companion to Reg for close to three quarters of a century - they grew up across the street from one another - Glad was a devoted wife and helpmate for more than 65 years. Together they marked their diamond wedding anniversary in 2002 and their 65th anniversary last September. Gladys devoted her intellect, her compassion and her energy to her family, friends and the community, all the while retaining her independent spirit, sense of humour and poise. Gladys is lovingly remembered and sorely missed by all those whose lives she touched deeply - her lifelong companion, her daughters, her granddaughters, five great-grandchildren, her siblings, their offspring and her many friends. We celebrate her life - a life lived generously and richly. The family wishes to thank the nursing and medical staff of the Victoria General Hospital for their kindness and compassionate care. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 13 at 2:15 p.m. at First Memorial Chapel, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC.
