JESSICA NADINE STRAIGHT (White Thunderbird Woman) November 24, 1981 - July 8, 2007 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jessica Straight of Brokenhead Ojibway Nation on July 8, 2007. She was born on November 24, 1981 in Winnipeg, MB. Left to cherish her wonderful memory are her children Kelsey (8), Erica (6) and Trenton (4) Straight-Bear; her parents Joyce and Brett Bouttell; her brothers, Wesley Straight (Amber), Chad Bouttell (Paige); her niece Tyra and nephew Cole; her Godparents Walter (Cheecheeman) Greyeyes and Judy Jones; her Godchild Kyla Bear; and her common-law partner Dean Richard. Also her aunts and uncles, Reggie Straight, Mary Chief (Gilbert), Judy Jones, Linda Kent, Margie Carver (Gordon), Barbara Guimond (Cliff), Langford Straight (Judy), Doyle Straight (Charlene), Ronald Straight (Janet), Walter Straight, Debbie Chief (Treasure) and granny Myrtle Chief. Jessica had many cousins, nieces, friends and people she called auntie and uncle. Her extended family Molly Richard (Edmund), brothers-in-law Chris, Mike, Allan and Eric. She considered a lot of people her brothers and sisters, Dion Jones (Liza), Kevin Jones (Sheila), Teresa Ryder (Gary), Joey Jones (Heather), Gordie Carver Jr. (Jodie), Lori Carver (Ivan), Miranda Carver (Kenny), Christine Michaud (Joe), Thomas Michaud, Denise Sinclair and Chantelle Sinclair. She was predeceased by her grandparents Agnes and Stanley Straight, her grandfather Thomas Chief and uncle Marcel Guimond. Jessica had many passions; her love was baseball where she acquired many friends over the years. Jessica loved to sing karaoke, loved to dance and had a very distinguishable laugh that everyone recognized. Her smile was very contagious and you couldn't help but smile when you saw her. Jessica loved meeting people at every function and would say hello to everyone. Jessica will be greatly missed on the ball field by her teammates and coaches Teresa and Gary. She played first base for team Huh in the Aboriginal League in Winnipeg. She participated in the Prairie Theatre with several cousins and friends in her teen years. Jessica loved to joke around and make people laugh by teasing with nicknames she gave them even though she had the nickname Jessica Moo. Jessica had a special place in her heart for who she called her twin sister Mir, her birthday partner Chris, and scrappy Rochelle. Jessica was close to her cousins and their children and always said family first. A wake will be held at the Scanterbury Hall starting today at 3:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 12 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sargent Tommy Prince School in Scanterbury with Rev. Judy Whitmore officiating. Cremation will follow. The active pallbearers will be Teresa Ryder, Heather Lambert, Jodie Carver, Rhonda Chief, Miranda Carver, Vanessa Chief, Sheila Bear and Christine Michaud. Honorary pallbearers will be Dion Jones, Kevin Jones, Gary Ryder, Joey Jones, Gordie Carver Jr. and Clinton Bear. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
