GEORGE (JERZY) KROSTA Peacefully on Sunday, July 8, 2007 our husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed on at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 81. Jurek was born in Poborowice, Poland on December 18, 1925 to Jan and Anna Krosta. During the Second World War, he was a forced laborer and after that, immigrated to Canada to work as a miner in the Red Lake area mines. From there he moved to Winnipeg and worked construction for a time till hired on with C.P. Rail as a Carman helper, until his forced retirement. He was for many years an active member of the Polish Combatants Association, Club 13 and the Royal Canadian Legion. Jurek was predeceased by both parents, his brother Jan in 1971 and sister Kazia in 2007. In his wake, Jurek leaves his loving and devoted wife of 51 years Emilia, their children Krysia and Edizo, son-in-law Neil, grandchildren Jaime (Luc), Evan, Colin, Alexander, Dana-Marie, Samantha, and twins Ryan and Steven and great-granddaughter Erika, as well as a nephew Edward and two nieces back in Poland. The family would like to extend their thanks to the kind staff at Fred Douglas Lodge for their care and compassion. Prayers will be held on Thursday, July 12 at 8:30 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442, Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 13 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Cantius Roman Catholic Church, 846 Burrows Ave. with Rev. Fr. Henryk Uczniak officiating.
