OLGA (OLLIE) MICHALSKI Peacefully on July 9, 2007, at the Grace Hospice, Ollie passed away with her family at her side after a brief battle with cancer. Ollie was predeceased by her parents Mary and Vasyl Kowtun; her brother Walter and his wife Julia Kowtun. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 58 years, Stanley Michalski; children Barbara (Randy) Lechman and Donald (Kim) Michalski; granddaughters Rebecca (Ryan) and Ginny (Jeff) Lechman and Melissa and Kyla Michalski, Amber Way; brother Meryn (Georgie) Kowtun; sisters-in-law Edna (Chester) Golis and Irene Ryan; nephews and nieces Gregory (Georgia) Kowtun, Linda (Ken) Yarema, Cal (Susan) Kowtun, Allyson (Blair) Bashaw, Wendy and Michael Ryan; as well as many cousins, great-nieces and nephews and dear friends. Ollie was born in Winnipeg in 1926 and grew up in the North End with her mother, father and two brothers. A graduate of St. John's High School, Ollie went on to earn her diploma in cosmetology. After meeting Stanley, they were married in 1949 and settled in East Kildonan where Ollie devoted her time to raising their two children. She spent many years as a hair stylist in her home based salon. Ollie was well known for her delicious baking. Her pie crust recipe is still the envy of her children and grandchildren. Ollie also had a true passion for animals. She cared for many dogs throughout her lifetime, but it was the recent addition of Leo the cat that showed her devotion to all creatures. Her passion for gardening resulted in a yard that was the envy of all her friends and neighbours. Her family continues to follow her tips on planting and maintaining a healthy garden. Above all, Ollie's greatest love was her family. She always took an interest in the lives of her family members whether near or far. She loved nothing more than big dinners surrounded by laughter and fun. During her last months, Ollie commented daily on how blessed she felt to have a caring family by her side. The family would like to thank the Grace Hospice for their gentle and compassionate care. The staff, fellow patients and volunteers made life for Ollie and her family members incredibly peaceful during this difficult time. Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 12 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St., with Deacon L. Twerdun officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Hospice, in care of Grace Hospital, or the Winnipeg Humane Society. KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
