CONSTANCE EMILY MARY CORNTHWAITE (nee LOCK) Connie died peacefully at Golden West Centennial Lodge on Monday, July 9, 2007. Connie was born in Winnipeg to Ted and Kate Lock on March 4, 1914. She is survived by her daughter Gwen Greig, son-in-law Richard and grandson Scott and long time family friends Bea Knight and Dawne Law. She is also survived by sister-in-law Elsie Lowings and three nieces, Geraldine Desjardine (Dave); Sylvia Parker (Gary) and Diane McWhirter (Rob) and their families; cousins Barbara Barnard, Thelma Hornby, Warren Barnard, (Joey) and their families. Connie lived her whole life in Winnipeg - attending local schools ultimately graduating from St. John's High School. After school she worked in a variety of secretarial jobs and in the Cash Office for the T. Eaton company's Mail Order Division. Connie was actively involved with Atlantic United Church from its inception in Sunday School, C.G.I.T., Girls Bible Study Group and the Tennis Club. It was here that she met Tom Cornthwaite and they married in 1937 and enjoyed nearly 60 years of happiness until Tom's death in May, 1997. Connie's interests included being a housewife and mother, enjoying the tasks of cooking, sewing, doing cross stitch and above all shopping. She enjoyed travelling and always enjoyed her visits to Detroit Lakes and Grand Forks with the Kelleys and later with Joan and Mike Byrka to Gimli. She, along with the family, made many visits to U.K. visiting the Lock and Cornthwaite families later adding the Greig family. Another favourite holiday was time spent at Marco Island in Florida with Barbara Barnard and Thelma Hornby. Connie was a long-time member of Knox United Church and participated in many activities there. More than anything else, Connie was proud of her daughter Gwen as she pursued a career in Nursing Education, Teaching and Directing at the School of Nursing, Grace General Hospital and later Clinical Teaching at the School of Nursing, University of Manitoba. She always had a love of music and was especially proud of the musical accomplishments of her son-in-law Richard, and grandson Scott. Over the past thirty years she attended many concerts and festivals to support them in their various musical endeavours. It is almost impossible to find the words of thanks for the Staffs of Golden West Centennial Lodge and Grace General Hospital Emergency Department. Their care and attention to the entire family has been exemplary. Thank you so much. A memorial service for Connie is taking place at Golden West Centennial Lodge, 811 School Road on Monday, July 16, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Golden West Centennial Lodge, 811 School Road, Winnipeg, R2Y 0S8 or The Senior Citizens Choir of Winnipeg, P.O.
