BRYAN DE JONGE It is with shock and great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved brother, uncle and friend. On Saturday, July 7, 2007 Bryan passed away peacefully at his home in Toronto. Bryan was predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret, as well as numerous other friends and relatives. He leaves to mourn his sisters, Hilda, Pearl and Carla (Jake), along with his nephew Bryce and niece Darcee. Bryan was born in The Hague, The Netherlands on May 4, 1948. He immigrated to Winnipeg, MB with his mom, dad and sister Hilda in 1951. The Y.M.C.A. was a big part of his youth. He was a competitive swimmer and a well respected swim teacher. He knew how to talk to kids and help them overcome their fears. Bryan loved people. He could and would talk to anyone and everyone. He had the gift of gab and could put anyone at ease with his sense of humour, quick wit and charm. In 1980 Bryan chose to move to Toronto to quench his thirst for life. Bryan spent many years working in the restaurant industry where he developed many good connections and made many good friends. Bryan was loved by everyone who knew him. His generous spirit and loving nature attracted people from all walks of life. Bryan will be sadly missed by many. The family will celebrate his life in a private ceremony. In Bryan's memory, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.1

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Hi. Well, I was just looking through an online copy of my Class of 1966 yearbook for Miles Mac Collegiate and jotted down Byan's name when I saw it. Bryan was a great guy and a friend. I mostly remember two things. First, he would tell me, in Dutch "I don't want to go to school today". I always agreed. Second, he encouraged me to take lessons at the YMCA, which I did. Bryan died in 2007 and I only came to realize it in 2022. Still, it made me sad. Love to all his family and friends. I was one of them. (By the way, my name was Grant Fridfinnsson then. I changed it when I became an American citizen to my great grandfather's last name). - Posted by: Grant Jonsson (School mate) on: Sep 02, 2022

  • I am just learning of Bryan's passing, and would like to extend my condolences to his family. I knew Bryan for a number of years in Toronto, and he always welcomed me with a smile, a big hug and lots of laughter. He was a very kind man, and I will miss him. Rest in peace, Bryan! - Posted by: Tom Gallagher (Friend ) on: Oct 17, 2016
