DERWIN REGINALD HAIGHT On July 3, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer, Derwin passed away peacefully at the Tri Lake Health Centre in Killarney with wife Thelma, son Gerald and sister-in-law Ruth Mooney at his side. Derwin was taken from us at the age of 78. Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 56 years, Thelma; son Gerald; grandson Brad (April McGregor); granddaughter Lindsay (Geoff Mann); sisters-in-law, Elaine Haight, Ruth Mooney, Dorothy Robertson, Margaret Hayden; many relatives, nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews. Derwin was predeceased by his parents Len and Lil; son Gary; brother Delmer, and daughter-in-law Debbie. Derwin was born in the Cartwright, Manitoba area on March 17, 1929. While growing up, Derwin worked hard on the family farm, but also found the time to enjoy hockey, baseball, curling, and later on in his life, golf. He was very conscientious about farming and many younger farmers sought his advice. Derwin and Thelma enjoyed travelling across the country to many Briers and other curling events, and over the years had made many friends. They also enjoyed watching son Gerald and grandson Brad curl in various bonspiels and provincials. They enjoyed watching Lindsay perform in many band concerts and lately, their luncheons together in Brandon. Our husband, father, and Gramps will be sadly missed. The family would like to thank Dr. Simons and all the nurses and staff at the Tri Lake Health Centre for their care of Derwin while in the hospital. A graveside service was held July 7, 2007 in Cartwright with minister Beth Clark officiating.
