FRANZ VEITH 1923 - 2007 On Sunday, July 8, 2007 at Bethania Personal Care Home, Franz Veith, beloved husband of Gerda, died at the age of 84 years. Franz Veith was born on May 24, 1923 in Wuenschelburg, Germany. After serving in the Second World War, he immigrated to Canada in 1952. He began working at Swift Meat Packing Company in Winnipeg in 1954. During that time he met his wife-to-be Gerda Lebtag. They married in 1955 and were blessed with a son and a daughter. In 1968 they moved to Medicine Hat, Alberta where they operated a meat business for 22 years. Franz and Gerda retired to Winnipeg in 1990. Franz leaves to mourn his wife Gerda, one son George (Tobia) and family; one daughter Marianne (Keith) Honeywell and family; five grandchildren, three sisters in Germany, two brothers-in-law and their families, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, five brothers and three sisters. The family would like to thank Dr. Doermer, and the nurses and staff at Bethania Personal Care Home for their compassionate care of Franz. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 17 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Avenue, with viewing prior to the service. Interment in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
