Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNETTIE SCHMIDT March 31, 1915 - July 11, 2007 It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother at the age of 92. She is survived by daughters Nadaja Peresin (Juraj) of Coquitlam, BC; Irene Boyko (Edward) of St. Andrews, MB; four grandchildren, Juraj Peresin (Tanya), Angelina Peresin of BC, Debbie Stevenson (Bill) of Aylmer, ON, Terry Boyko (Rose) of Kirkness, MB; five great-grandchildren, Marena, Shaylea, Cameron Stevenson, Ryan and Kevin Boyko. She was predeceased by her beloved husband John in 1988, and also her sister Mary and brother-in-law Steve Roscoe of Melrose, MB and family in the Ukraine. Born in the Ukraine, Nettie left to work in Austria during the Second World War. She met her husband John there and they were married. They immigrated to Canada in 1948 and settled in Melrose, MB. Six years later they moved to Kirkness where she enjoyed her garden, flowers, cooking, baking and many friends. Over the years she made many beautiful Ukraine cross-stitch pieces for her daughters and granddaughters. She was a faithful member of the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Gonor, MB for many years. In 1990 she settled in the Red River Manor in Selkirk, MB where she made many new friends who she cherished. The family would like to thank the home care workers for their excellent care over the years, and also the staff at the Selkirk General Hospital for their care and support. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Prayers will be held on Monday, July 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. At Nettie's request, cremation will follow and a Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, July 17 at 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, Gonor, MB with Fr. Peter Chorney officiating. Interment of ashes will follow in the parish cemetery. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
