CHARLES (JOHN) MORRISON Peacefully, Charles (John) Morrison passed away on July 12, 2007 at the age of 91 years, his wife at his side. John leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Mary, son Robert Morrison, daughter Shirley Collins (Pat Collins), granddaughter Lindsey Collins, great-grandson Chaz, daughter-in-law Ruth Morrison, grandchildren Joanna and Jamie Morrison, brother Art Morrison and sister-in-law Annie Morrison and many relatives on both sides of the family. He was predeceased by his son Gary Morrison, brothers and sisters Horace, Kent (Helen), Jay, Edith (John) Robison, Blanche, Dorothy (Dave) Mitchell and Kay (Ross) Robison and sister-in-law Edith. Born in Craighurst, Ontario, in 1916, John moved with his family at age three to the Gordon district in Rosser Municipality, Manitoba, and worked on the family farm with his parents and Art until he was 29. He married Mary Myska in 1945 and in the same year began the move to his own land (240 acres) close to his parents' homestead. He loved farming. He grew wheat, oats, barley and flax, produced eggs and broiler hens, and occasionally worked up north cutting wood, locally on highway construction and in Winnipeg as a carpenter's assistant to supplement the farm income. He retired at the age of 77. Though a quiet man, John had no hesitation in walking up to strangers and starting a conversation, often leading to many new friendships over the years. He loved going to auction sales with his friends. A celebration of John's life will be held at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel in Stonewall on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. The family wishes to extend their thanks to all the hospital and care home staff who helped Dad in so many ways over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care or arrangements.
