Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHARLOTTE ELIZA BERENICE WARD On Tuesday, July 10, 2007, Mrs. Berenice (Paynter) Ward of Caledon, Ontario passed away at the age of 91 after a brief illness. Berenice was predeceased by her loving husband of 61 years, Tom. She is survived by her daughter Louise (Rudy) Veenstra of Caledon, and her son George (Ann) Ward of Sherwood Park, Alberta; grandchildren, Debra (Paul) Gilhespy of Sherwood Park, Nancy (Kim) Haverstock of Ardrossan, Alberta, Tom (Catherine Inglis) Veenstra of Toronto, and Heather (Paul) Hossie of Georgetown; great-grandchildren, Adrianna and James Gilhespy of Sherwood Park, Eliza Haverstock of Ardrossan, Luke Veenstra of Toronto, and Baby Hossie of Georgetown. She was predeceased by two brothers, and leaves sisters, Gertrude (Harvey) Berry of Brandon, Noreen Cass of Winnipeg, and sister-in-law Vivian Ward of Roblin, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Berenice was born in the Qu'Appelle Valley in Saskatchewan, the oldest of five children. Following her schooling in Tantallon, Saskatchewan, she worked for several years in her father's store, Paynter's Limited, before marrying Tom on May 24, 1940. They settled in Flin Flon, Manitoba and started their family soon after. Tom's work with the Trades and Labour Council, and later the Canadian Labour Congress and the Unemployment Insurance Commission, took the family to Ottawa in 1954. After Tom's retirement in 1973, the Ward's embarked on 27 years of happy snow-birding in Weslaco, Texas. Following Tom's passing, Berenice spent her final years enjoying family, travel and church life in Caledon. The family will receive friends at the Dods and McNair Funeral Home and Chapel, 21 First St., Orangeville (519-941-1392) on Monday, July 16, 2007 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday, July 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will take place in the Chapel on Tuesday, July 17 at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to Knox United Church, Caledon 2976 Charleston Sideroad, Caledon, ON L7K 0V8 (Attention Deep Roots Campaign) or to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Berenice and Tom in the Dods and McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. A dedication service will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. (Condolences may be offered to the family at www.dodsandmcnair.com)
