EVELYN EILEEN FORBES It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of Evelyn Eileen Forbes, our beloved Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma, on Monday, July 16, 2007. She died peacefully, surrounded by her family, at Red River Place, Selkirk, MB. She was predeceased by her daughter Ruthie (1949) (twin of Irene) and beloved husband Robert George Forbes (1960). She will be lovingly remembered by her son Robert of Winnipeg, her daughters, Leona McIver (Glen) of Cranbrook, BC, Irene Hamm (Gerry) of Selkirk, and Gloria Forbes of Saskatoon, SK. Left to cherish her memory are her precious grandchildren, Valerie Forbes, Jeff (Marcy) McIver, Kevin (Sarah) McIver, Brent McIver, Jason (Margaret) Hamm, Chris Hamm, David Hamm, and Lara (Victor) Guerrero, and her very special great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Evelyn was born in Glenavon, SK on June 29, 1916 to Harvey and Beatrice Cross, the fourth of 16 children. She is survived by her brother Gerry (Olga) Cross, her sisters, Eunice (Wendel) Wagman, Shirley Konanz, two brothers-in-law, Ken Beckett and Ivan Calfas and sister-in-law Jean Cross. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Evelyn will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, gentleness, warmth, and quick wit. She spent many hours volunteering for the Arthritis Self-Help Group. She loved to knit, read, play cards, visit with family and friends, and keep in touch by phone with her large extended family. Cremation has taken place and a service celebrating her life will be at the Rathwell Memorial Hall on Saturday, July 21, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Should friends and family so desire, donations in memory of Evelyn can be made to The Arthritis Society. The family would like to thank the staff at Red River Place for their excellent care, the love and kindness given to Mom over the past year and the compassion shown to us these past weeks. When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me I want no rites in a gloom filled room Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little but not too long And not with heads bowed low. Remember the love that we once shared. Miss me but let me go. For this journey we all must take And each must go alone. It's all a part of the master's plan A step on road to home. When you are lonely and sick at heart, Go to the friends we know And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds. Miss me but let me go... (Poet Unknown) Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.

  • Our deepest sympathy to Robert, Leona, Irene, Gloria and families. May the love of family and friends and memories you all cherish bring consolation to your broken heart. Your mum was a very specal lady who always had a kind word and smile whenever we saw her. I am very honoured to have been a friend of you all.
