PAUL GODDE Peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, July 17, 2007, Paul passed away at St. Boniface Hospital after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Paul was predeceased by his father Paul (1974), mother Elisabeth (2004), sister Ulla (2006) and special Tante Frances (2007). He is survived by his wife Ursula, children, Mark and Christine, brother Heinz (Mathilde) and their children, Christoph and Thomas, sister Elisabeth and her daughter Martina, special cousins, Luise (Ken), Jo-Anne (Charles), Leni (Wayne), Diana (Clayton) and numerous relatives and friends. Paul was born in Herten, Germany on February 18, 1936, the second of four children. Paul immigrated to Canada in 1956 and stayed with his Aunt Frances in East St. Paul and her four children, Luise, Jo-Anne, Leni and Diana, quickly becoming the big brother they never had. Paul followed his aunt into the family business, J. Godde Ltd., Barber and Beauty Supplies, eventually taking over the company with his wife. He also served on different occasions as the regional director of the Allied Beauty Association. Paul stayed active in the German community, becoming a member of the German Society of Winnipeg, the Germanic Cultural Centre, the German Choir of Winnipeg and attended Schutzenfest many summers in Little Britain. It was in Little Britain that he would meet the love of his life, Ursula in 1967, whom he married a year later. Shortly thereafter, their family was complete with the arrival of their son Mark, followed by their daughter Christine. Paul had a lifelong passion for his family, music and dancing. While his children were young, many summers were spent camping exploring Canada and the United States. He would also take his family back home to Germany on numerous occasions. For many years, he was a member of the St. Al's Senior Choir as well as the German Choir of Winnipeg for whom he served as president for the last two terms. Most weekends, would find Paul and Ursula on a dance floor somewhere in the city. Paul was a loving husband, father and friend. He loved to work around his home, building a deck, gazebo and numerous other projects. Although famous for saying measure twice, cut once he could be heard cussing on occasion for not following his own advice. His strong faith in God gracefully carried him through his life until the end. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit, especially Father Roland for making a difficult time easier. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 20, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church (corner of Munroe Avenue and Brazier Street) officiated by Brother Jorge Villegas. Viewing will be held at the church prior to the service, followed by the interment, which will take place at Glen Eden Funeral Home, with a reception to follow. Pallbearers are Werner Birkholz, Clayton Brinkman, Wayne Flamand, Victor Santa, Ken Taylor and Kenny Taylor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Boniface General Hospital Palliative Care Fund, 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R2H 2A6 or CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9. To The Family: We are sincerely sorry to hear of the loss. I had the pleasure of serving with Paul on his last appointment to the Board of Directors of the Allied Beauty Association, and remember him to be an honest and sincere individual. He made significant contributions to our organization over the years and was well respected by our members nationwide. On a personal note, my father remembers him well , and will miss his friendship. He will be sadly missed by the industry that he loved. Sincerely Kevin O'Regan Jr., President, Allied Beauty Association - Posted by: Kevin ORegan (Friend) on: Jul 19, 2007
