DORIS KRESTANOWICH (PIDLUBNY - Pidluberg) The family is saddened to announce Doris' passing on July 17, 2007 at the Seven Oaks Hospital. Domka was born on January 23, 1919; the second of eight children born to George Pidlubny and Kitza Pidhorney. In Western Manitoba's Two Creeks District, Mom attended the Ross School and grew up known as Anne, the daughter of Jim and Kay Pidluberg. Grandfather never officially changed his name to Pidluberg from Pidlubny. It was later in life that Mom officially changed her name to Doris Anne. Doris was predeceased by her parents; husband Bill; son Dennis; brothers, Gregory (Corky), Nicholas and Bill Pidluberg; sisters, Mary Zazulak, Victoria Pidlubny (infancy), Victoria (Vicky) Check and Catherine (Kitty) Loflin / Statler. Mom was the last surviving sibling of her family. Doris is survived by her son Ted (wife Jennifer and grandson John); son David (wife Joanne, grandchildren Cheryl and Bill); daughter-in-law Sharon, (grandchild Paul, wife Cory and great-grandchildren, Adam, Madeline and Aaron; grandchild Jason; grandchild Lisa, husband Mike Tottle and great-grandchildren Zachary, Samantha and Sean). Mom also leaves behind nieces, Catherine Winters, Carol Speck, Barbara Pidluberg (Hamilton), Roxanne Johnson, Barbara Pidluberg (Winnipeg) and Cheryl Walker, nephews; David, Daniel and James Check, James and Gregory Pidluberg. Doris' husband, father and grandfather all immigrated to Canada from the Village of Vasloviwsti, Province of Bukovina, Ukraine. George Pidlubny was a CPR Section Foreman in Two Creeks, while the Pidhorney family homesteaded in the Sheho District of SK. Mom was the anchor of our family and will be missed. She played the matriarch well, offering sound advice and an encouraging word. Mom was proud of her family's accomplishments and she made sure that we were aware of her feelings. Mom was an independent woman. She raised her family in many ways by herself, as our Dad worked long hours in the hotel business. We give thanks for her being there for all of us. She planned her life carefully, moving from her house to her condo to Amber Meadows at her own pace, never forced; she always knew when to make the move. She handled her declining eyesight masterfully, never complaining, always coping. Most people never knew how much eyesight she had lost to macular degeneration. Mom and Dad married in Winnipeg in 1937 and the family has lived in Emerson and Fort Frances as well as Winnipeg. During these times she was a member of the local Ukrainian Church, which was a focal point of friendship and culture throughout the years. Mom made three trips to the Ukraine with Dad. Those trips were special to the two of them as it allowed them to renew old ties and establish new friendships with family. For years, both Mom and Dad assisted family in the Ukraine. Mom was proud of her Ukrainian heritage. She would fill the house with family and friends to help celebrate both Ukrainian Christmas and Easter. The table would be piled high with traditional dishes, and no one left hungry. She was a great cook. None of us will forget the dinner table that stretched right across the house. It was at these events that she was at her happiest. Goodbye, we love you Mom. The family would like to thank Dr. Kristjanson and all the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for their professionalism, compassion and care during Mom's stay. Prayers will be held on Thursday, July 19 at 8:30 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 20 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Chapel with Very Rev. H. Lakusta officiating. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Paul, Jason, John and Bill Krestanowich, Alan Winters and Mike Tottle. In lieu of flowers a donation to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. VICHNAYA PAM'YAT CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
