IRMGARD BARTEL November 24, 1929 July 17, 2007 Peacefully in her sleep, Irmgard passed away on July 17, 2007, at her home. She was born in Braunschweig, Germany, as the only child of Karl and Martha Guenther who were very sad to see her leave for Canada with her young family in 1951. They were reunited two years later. Helping to provide for her family by working as a nurses aid and in the service industry, she tired of rented quarters and initiated to buy a house. Having accomplished this, she continued her efforts for her children throughout their school years and again as a grandmother. Irmgard joined a recreational involvement, which was a most enjoyable activity for years, and during which she formed lasting friendships. Next to her family gatherings on special occasions, she and her husband enjoyed travelling to visit lifelong acquaintances and friends. To meet the family's spiritual needs, they have been members and worshipping with the First Mennonite Church of Winnipeg since 1951. Irmgard will be fondly remembered by her husband David, daughter Jutta (Karl), sons Peter (Linda), Dieter (Gail), and David, grandchildren Angela, Adam (Tracy), Chris, Kevin, Raymond (Jayne), Jason and Dean, great-grandchildren Calvin, Austin, Tyler and Alex. Irmgard was predeceased by her parents. Thank you for the continuous flowers, cards, calls and prayers to all of the E. K. Ladies bowling league. The family would like to thank Dr. Harris and her staff at Concordia Hospital Oncology for the ongoing care. Thanks also for the excellent care of the Palliative Home Care Nurses and HC Aids. Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 20, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service. 2146 Main Street, with Rev. Mark Von Kampen officiating. Viewing prior to the service. Interment to follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Irmgard's memory to Mennonite Central Committee (Manitoba), 134 Plaza Dr., Winnipeg, R3T 5K9, or to a charity of one's choice.
