Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT (BOB) JAMES KIRK BScAg DVM Peacefully July 3, 2007, at the age of 92. Predeceased by his parents Robert and Mary (Mame) Kirk and his sister Jean, Bob is survived by Edna, his devoted wife of 64 years; brother Franklin (Edie); sons Ross, Brian (Barbara), and Bruce (Karen); grandsons James (Rebecca), Graham (Shannon), and Andrew (Kristy); great-grandson Andrew, and many other relatives and friends. Born September 21, 1914, in Omaha, NE. Bob grew up in Winnipeg. He obtained a BScAg, University of Manitoba in 1936, and a DVM University of Toronto-Guelph in 1941. He married Edna in 1943, and worked most of his career with the Province of Manitoba, specializing in the disease and nutrition of ranch mink and foxes. He developed vaccines, appeared in court cases as an expert witness, and contributed greatly to the success of ranchers. He was an authority in his field, and had a TV show Here's My Pet on CBC in 1960. He retired in 1978. Bob had a lifelong love of the outdoors, skating, snowshoeing, hunting, canoeing the Red River up Lake Winnipeg as a young man. His work took him all across the North, which he loved. Physically active all his life, he still used his snowblower and lawnmower at the age of 91. He was well read, with a keen analytical mind, and was always willing to debate on any topic. In May he won a bet from his doctor about the usefulness of a procedure. Bob and Edna loved singsongs with friends and family. He was a devoted husband and father, always prepared to help his family succeed at whatever they were trying to do. If you wish you may make a donation in Bob's memory to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, or a charity of your choice. A reception in memory of Bob will be held Friday, July 27, 2007, from 3:00 to 5:00 at the Waverley Retirement Home, Multi-Purpose Room, 857 Wilkes Ave., Winnipeg.
