DOREEN JOANN WILSON It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother and grandmother, Doreen Joann Wilson. She died peacefully with her children by her side on July 14, 2007 at the Gimli Community Health Centre, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Doreen was born on November 9, 1937 to Adam and Bertha Hector. She turned out to be a surprise present to her big sister Donna who was celebrating her second birthday. Mom attended Vicory School, St. John's High and United College. In 1960 she married Bob Wilson and together they had three children. Mom always worked, often two jobs and raised her children. She invented multi tasking. Mom worked at the Toronto Dominion Bank, Assiniboia Downs, Chicken Delight, Royal Bank, Student Aid and eventually her own company B.M. Ent. Ltd. Throughout her career she made many life long friends, especially her dearest friend Grace Kerr. She enjoyed gardening, country life, her family and especially her dogs. In 1992, she met the love of her life, Bill Morton. They shared 14 beautiful years together, both personal and in business, until his passing in June of 2006. Bill fondly referred to mom as Buffalo Woman . Her family felt that name epitomized the determination and quiet strength she showed through all of the storms she encountered throughout her life. Mom always handled everything and everyone with dignity, grace and open arms. Mom always had a place in her home for any of God's creatures, from little turtles to people. Doreen leaves Scott (Liz) and their children, Erin, Shannon, Kiera, Kelly, and newest member Maeve; Darcy (Kerry) and their children, Cory, Darryl, Michelle, Jessica and Jordan; and Judy and daughter Stacy; her sister Donna LePaige in Medford Oregon, many nieces and nephews and her beloved four-legged companions Bandit, Sheba, and Bear. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Monday, August 13 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church in Winnipeg with Pastor Sam Argenziano officiating, with a luncheon to follow. Interment will take place later that day at Robinson Spur near Matlock. Special thanks to the compassionate and caring staff at the Gimli Hospital who took such great care of Doreen, and to the wonderful homecare aids, that tended to her while she was at home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Gimli Animal Shelter. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
