DOUGLAS WILLIAM MOORE October 17, 1948 - July 17, 2007 On July 17, 2007 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer our beloved Douglas Moore passed away at Riverview Palliative Care. Predeceased by his parents George and Gilberte (Betty) Moore of Brockville, Ontario, brother George of Brockville, Ontario and parents-in-law William (Bill) and Elma White of Winnipeg, and special uncle Stewart Moore of Toronto. He leaves to mourn his loving and devoted wife of 20 years, Patricia Lynne (nee White), sister-in-law Heather Moore of Brockville, Ontario, niece Leslie Wade (Aaron) and great-niece Aarelyn of Port Elgin, Ontario, niece Lyndsay Moore of London, Ontario, Aunt Hope Kersh of Brockville, Ontario, Uncle Donald Moore of Kingston, Ontario, Uncle Gerald Wilson of Brockville, Ontario, Aunt Rita Lindsay of Morris, Manitoba, adopted sisters, Marilyn Lindsay of Winnipeg and Adrienne Madden of Winnipeg and numerous family and friends in both Winnipeg and Brockville, Ontario. Doug was a devoted pet parent to Elvis his three-year-old tabby whom he rescued from the Humane Society. Elvis misses afternoon naps on his papa . Doug was born and raised in Brockville, Ontario, the heart of the 1000 Islands on the St. Lawrence River. He graduated from Thousand Island Secondary School in 1966 and George Brown College (Toronto) in 1968 as a Machinist / Mechanic. He was employed as a Journeyman Machinist for 40 years. His first 21 years were with Philips Cables Ltd. in Brockville, Ontario and last 19 in Winnipeg with several employers eventually retiring in 2005 from Aero-Recip (Canada) Ltd. Doug was a highly skilled professional with an exemplary work ethic who took great pride in his trade. Over the years Doug enjoyed many hobbies, among them: photography, model railroading, camping and, after retirement, creating an urban oasis in his backyard. Doug came from an extremely talented musical family and he himself was an accomplished guitar player and singer playing professionally for many years with his cousins, Tom, Gilbert and Neil Wilson of Brockville, Ontario. In 1986 Doug left his career, family and friends in Brockville to marry the love of his life, Patricia, adopting Winnipeg and Manitoba as his new home. When Doug learned of his inevitable death he faced it as he did life: head on with courage, dignity and on his terms. His concern was not for himself but for his wife whom he was leaving behind. Although not a regular church-goer Doug had a strong unwavering faith in his God. One of the parting gifts he received when he retired was a beautiful sundial. The inscription on the sundial reads: Grow old along with me the best is yet to be. Doug and Pat did not get this opportunity in their lifetime but will in the next. A funeral service celebrating Doug's life will be held Monday, July 23 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. Cremation and private interment will follow. A memorial service will be held in Brockville, Ontario at a later date. Irvine Funeral Home in charge of arrangements in Brockville. The family wishes to thank the following for their support and care during Doug's illness: Dr. Gilles Pinette, Family Matters Health Clinic, Dr. N. Ahmed and staff of CancerCare Manitoba, the staff of Health Sciences Centre Emergency and Health Sciences Centre GD-4, Palliative Home Care and the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of Riverview Palliative Care. We also wish to thank all of our family, friends and colleagues who made this difficult time bearable. A special thanks to Adrienne Madden and Marilyn Lindsay.
