Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLOUIS ARNOLD MENDEL PEIKOFF February 2, 1906 - July 14, 2007 Peacefully, Louis Arnold Mendel Peikoff passed away on July 14, 2007 at the age of 101 years at the Rosewood Lodge in Stonewall, MB. Louis was born February 2, 1906 in Poltava, Russia, and arrived in Canada later that year as a babe in arms. The family settled in Rossburn, MB where his father operated the general store. Louis was the youngest of ten children all of whom have predeceased him. Louis decided to become a lawyer and was called to the bar in 1929. He went on to practice law for over 50 years, only taking time off to serve in Her Majesty's Forces from 1943 to 1945. He was fluent in seven languages and this allowed him to help many people arriving here from other lands, many of whom became personal friends. Louis married Kay Fitcher on June 6, 1947. In 1950 his son Mark was born. In 1965 they moved to the country near Bird's Hill Park. While Kay gardened and grew her African violets, Louis had a succession of pets which he treated as family members. He enjoyed literature and poetry and penned memoirs of his father's life in Russia which he entitled Truth is Stranger than Fiction . Sadly, Kay passed away in 1982. Mark married Betty-Mae Campbell in 1975. Louis' grandson Jesse was born in 1983. They shared a love of music and Grandpa didn't need much prompting to play some boogie-woogie piano for him. Louis married Ada Hershfield in 1984. They continued to enjoy country life with their dogs until illness parted them. The family would like to express a very special thanks to all the staff at the Rosewood Lodge for their wonderful and thoughtful care of Louis while he was a resident there. We can not imagine a better place for Dad to have spent his final years. At Louis' request a private family ceremony will be held. We would also like to thank the Anderson Family Funeral Home for their kind and caring help. Arrangements entrusted to: ANDERSON FAMILY FUNERAL HOME Ashern, MB 1-866-293-4951
