Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKENNETH GILBERT OLENICK With deep sadness and broken hearts the family announces the passing their husband, father and grandfather, Ken after a courageous battle with cancer and diabetes on July 20, 2007 at the age of 72 years. Left to mourn and lovingly remembered by his wife June of 46 years; sons, Danny, Ken Jr. and Darren; daughter Kim (Kevin) Funk and grandchildren, Candace (Tim), Kyler (Courtney) Funk; sister Shirley (Dave) Stempin, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his mother Chris (George) Seymour, father John (Flo) Olenick; sisters Marlene Downs and Margaret Blocker, in-laws Irma and Joe Lang, Norman Lang, Herb Bieber and nephew Troy Lang. Ken was born October 21, 1934 in Souris , MB and grew up in Winnipeg. In their early years of marriage, Ken was employed in the trucking business travelling across Canada and the United States. When the children were born, Ken went back to his sheet metal trade to be with his family at home. At the time of his passing he was President and Co-owner of Mid-West Sheet Metal, along with his wife June for the past 32 years. He was very knowledgeable and well respected in his trade. Ken had a lifelong love of the outdoors, fishing, hunting, gardening, travelling, boating and going to the cottage at Lac du Bonnet. Another of his favourite pastimes was playing cards with family and friends, watching boxing and western classics on t.v. A Celebration of Ken's Life will take place Wednesday, July 25 at 11:30 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ken's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Room ON109, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6.
