Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySOPHIE KRISTJANSON It is with overwhelming sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great and great-great-grandmother, Sophie on July 18, 2007, at the age of 92 years. Sophie was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Hannes, and her parents, William and Helen Slobodian. She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter Beverly (Einar) and son Eddie (Carol); her grandchildren, Sandy (Rod) and Craig (Lisa); her great-grandchildren, Caleb (Sandra), Simon (Lisa), Kate (Wes), Ezra and little Erika, her sisters, Anne Kristjanson, Minnie Carter and Jeannie Rosjer (Ed) and many nieces and nephews. Sophie was born on February 10, 1915 in Winnipeg, MB. She grew up and went to school in the Burrows Ave. area. As a young woman, she moved, with her family to Gimli, MB. There she met a young fisherman, married him and settled in to raise a family and make a life. During the early years, Sophie pitched in to help her husband in the fishing business. As cook, at the fishing station, she often cooked for 60 hungry men. Remembering these hard times made her more generous to others throughout her life. Being a very social person, she was a member of the Kinettes, the Dart Club, the Good Neighbours, the Women's Curling Club and the Bridge Club. Her joys were watching the Blue Jays and curling on TV, grocery excursions, reading, cooking and, of course, bridge. Sophie's youthful spirit, her independence, her generosity, and her warmth will be remembered by all who knew her. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday July 25 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gimli Lutheran Church with Pastor Jaysen Snider officiating. Interment of ashes will follow in the Gimli Community Cemetery. A special thanks goes to Muriel, Judy, and her other loyal friends for their multitude of kindness during Sophie's life. She and we appreciated them enormously. No cards please, but if friends so desire, donations may be made in Sophie's memory to the charity of their choice. Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli in care of arrangements.
