FREDDIE (THORBJORG) MACDONALD Peacefully, in her 90th year on July 20, 2007 at Lions Personal Care Centre, Freddie slipped away, her family at her side. She was predeceased by her husband Donald in 1982, her parents, sister Sigurlaug, brother Tryggvi, and many good friends. Freddie was a proud mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mother is survived by her children, Heather Corbett (Fred), Sharon Macdonald (Dave Cageorge), Donna (Bruce) Drever, and Bruce (Loanne) Macdonald; her nieces, Ingrid Lee and Norma Lostracco; nephew Gordon Frederickson; and extended family in Canada and Iceland. She was Amma to Chris (Taryn), Geoffrey (Leanne), Gordon (Carmen), Scott (Kyla), Brooke (Jason), Sachen (Bill) and Chettie (Warren). She was Langamma to Brittany, Maclin, Wyatt, Emmylou, Colby and Ethan. Maclin was born on her 88th birthday! Born Thorbjörg Traustidottir near Siglufjörthur, Iceland on November 8, 1917, Mother was the youngest child of Trausti Fridriksson and Asa Nybjorg Asgrimsdottir. In 1922, Mother immigrated with her family to Baldur, MB. She grew up in this Icelandic community, was fluently bilingual, and proud of her heritage. Known as Thora Frederickson, Mother moved to Winnipeg to study nursing and graduated from the Winnipeg General Hospital in 1940. Mother and Father were married in 1944 at Knox United Church. Mother enjoyed her career as a nurse, retiring from the Psychiatric Institute on Emily Street in 1974. Lifelong friends were made during those times. Mother and Father had many circles of friends through nursing, the Winnipeg Police Service, Lipton Street, Harstone United Church, Lac du Bonnet, the Icelandic community, rural Manitoba and bridge clubs. Mom and Dad welcomed Afi and Amma Frederickson into our Lipton St. home and cared for them for many years. Mom's special attention and support to our father were provided selflessly. Mother was known for her sense of humour, quick wit, pranks, and readiness for the next adventure or a chat over a good cup of coffee. Mom talked of singing and dancing until she was 100 years old, but alas it was not to be. She was part of the Lions choir and continued to sing and tap along with familiar tunes until the end. Mother loved the arts and especially music. Mother was a good friend and neighbour to many. She had a special relationship with her niece Ingrid with whom she travelled. Mother joined Dad's cousin Jenny Brown of Scotland on a trip to Australia in their golden years. And, yes, Mother returned twice to Iceland, once with her daughters Heather and Sharon. The family extends sincere thanks to the residents and staff of Lions Manor and Lions Personal Care Centre. Mother enjoyed her time there. We all appreciate the care provided. For those who wish to attend, the interment will be on Thursday, July 26 at 1:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave., followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. at Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Road, Dr. G. Taylor officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to an organization, church or charity of your choice. Kaffi sopi? Adeins tiu dropa, pökk fyrir. Goda nott, Elskan. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
