Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALLAN JOSHUA PICKARD With profound sadness the family announces the passing of Allan Pickard on Friday, July 20, 2007 at the Victoria Hospital, after a courageous battle with illness. Allan was predeceased by his brothers George Edward, Maurice, Walter, and Fred and sisters Mabel and Ida. He will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife Jeanne; their children, Kathleen (Larry) Rehaluk, Allanna (Allan) Pickard, and Denise; grandchildren, Tanya, Mark, Tim Amy, Avril and great-grandson Connor; sister Helen (Tom) Hedley and brother Ivan ( Mary) of England, and numerous nieces and nephews. Allan was born July 4, 1927 at the family farm, Swindon Hall, in Kirkby Overblow, Yorkshire, England. During The Second World War he was a glider pilot with the Air Cadets. Allan immigrated to Canada at the age of 19. In the early years he worked on a farm in Ile des Chenes where he met the love of his life. They were married on July 30, 1949 in Lorette, Manitoba. They moved to Winnipeg where he worked for the Greater Winnipeg Gas Company for 40 years. He was actively involved in the union, and obtained certification at the University of Manitoba. He was always a history buff and upon retirement became involved in tracing his family tree and volunteering at the Manitoba Genealogical Society. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, July 25, at 7:30 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Patrick Morand and Fr. Darrin Gurr at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 26, at St Vital Parish, 1629 Pembina Hwy. Interment will follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
