ANTHONY BERTRAND BONNER After a long and courageous battle with cancer, it is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of our precious husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Anthony (Tony) Bonner on Friday, July 20, 2007 at Selkirk General Hospital He was predeceased by his parents, brothers-in-law Harry Garland, Judge Tom Thornton, Bert Drevlo, Art and Len Drewlo, Fred Jenkins, Tony Sokol and Bill Streich, sisters-in-law Marge and Jackie Sawchuk, Olga Jenkins, Margaret Sokol and Molly Drewlo. Dad leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of 67 years, Alma; children Lloyd (Judy) and Susan and cherished grandson Paul; brothers Joe (Betty), Ted and Peter Sawchuk, Stan (Fjola); sister Rose Garland-Thornton; sisters-in-law Mae Danyluk (Orest), Tillie Drewlo and Doris Drevlo; brother-in-law Ham Drewlo (Doreen) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Dad will also be missed his little pal Sherlock who loved to come visit. Dad was born on January 15, 1913 and lived all his life in Beausejour. Dad had a very interesting and challenging life, according to all the stories he told us over the years, some of which we have forgotten but through his photographs from Standard Photo, he left us a wonderful legacy. On June 26, 1940, Dad married Alma Drewlo. Dad went into the Army and together they travelled to and lived in Kingston, Ontario and St. Jerome, Quebec. Upon leaving the Army they returned to Beausejour and set up house. Lloyd arrived in 1952 and Susan three and one-half years later in 1956. In 1954, with the help of local contractors and Alma's brothers, they built the house on Oak where they raised their family and lived for many years. Needing something smaller, they moved to 2nd Street where they resided until recently. Dad worked for many years as the County Court Clerk for Mr. L.J. Pulfer. Through this Dad met many people and some who would be beneficial years down the road. Those who knew him will best remember him from The Standard Press. This was a tiny printing company that he ran out of the small house he shared with his grandparents. As the business grew, he needed more room and thus started the various locations this little print shop was housed in. In 1963, with the help of Eugene Derksen, he built the shop on 3rd Street that now houses Mel Darroch's office. He stayed in that building until retirement at a young 70 years. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 28 at Zion Lutheran Church, First Street North, Beausejour, MB with Pastor Don Reimer officiating. Interment will follow in the Beausejour Town Cemetery. Viewing will be from 2:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. on Friday, July 27 at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue East, Beausejour, MB. The family would like to thank the excellent, caring nurses at Selkirk SCU and everyone else involved in making Dad's life a little more comfortable. One of Dad's most passionate charities was the Winnipeg Humane Society. Donations may be made to them in his name. God say you getting tired, when a cure was not to be, so He put His arms around you and whispered Come with Me . It broke our hearts to lose you, But you did not go alone, For part of us went with you, The day God called you home. We love you and miss you.
