George was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB, where he met and married Virginia and together they had three children. In April of 1942 he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy and made landings in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and the U.K. until his discharge in October 1945. While enlisted he took up boxing and loved to tell his story of how he only lost one fight. After the war he enrolled in University to become a salesman with Metropolitan Life, which became his career until he retired in 1977. In 1978 he came out of retirement to co-own a Ford-Mercury dealership with his son Bill in Ashern until 1986. He spent the remaining years of his retirement golfing, taking trips to Palm Springs and growing (eating) his beloved strawberries. George leaves to mourn his children Bill (Terri), Janis, and Patricia (Franz), along with seven grandchildren: Billy, David, Virginia, Kyle, Brian, Christopher and Tracy; six great-grandchildren: Brian, Lyndsey, Teuvo, Alexandria, Kendra, and Thomas, along with numerous nieces, and nephews, and his good friend Raymond who he so enjoyed having coffee with and talking over the stocks and war stories. George was predeceased by his parents, William and Laticia, his wife Virginia, brother Fred, sister Maureen, and one great-granddaughter Chayla Harkonen. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of George's life will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ashern Legion Hall with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. The McCosh family would like to thank all his special homecare workers, Nancy, Crystal, Teresa, Vi and Bonnie for all their wonderful care while he remained in his home.
