Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARNOLD CARL (ARNIE) RICHTER Peacefully on July 25, 2007, at home with his wife by his side, Arnie went to his Heavenly Father after a six-year battle with cancer. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 45 years, Karen; his sons, Chris (Cheryl), David (Susanne); daughter Stacey (Troy); grandchildren, Courtney, Adam, Karly, Johnathon, Brett and Eric; his sister Helen Rohs; nieces, Cindy (David) and family, Lori (Gary) and family; cousins and many close friends. Arnie was predeceased by his parents John and Olga; his parents-in-law Alf and Thelma Price; brothers-in-law, Donald Price and Leo Rohs. Arnie was born on April 23, 1932, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He grew up on the family farm and went to Dog Lake School. He started farming with his father at a very early age. He had short stints of construction work and fishing, but was never happier than when he was farming. He married Karen (nee Price) on March 3, 1962, and together they farmed on the family farm, purchasing more land and cattle. For about 12 years he also raised hogs from farrow to finish, then after losing the farm buildings to the forest fire in 1989, he went back to cattle farming. Arnie and Karen moved into town in November 1997. Arnie continued to farm until 2003 when he sold the farm to his great-nephew Marty Budge and wife Angel. In the last few years he has enjoyed feeding his birds, working on his old John Deere tractors, reading, spending time with his grandchildren, playing pool and shuffleboard. Saturday evenings were often spent listening to the Polka Party and reading the Manitoba Co-operator. Friends and relatives may pay their respects on Saturday, July 28 between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. at the Arnason Funeral Home in Ashern, MB. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, 2007, at the Grace Lutheran Church, Ashern, MB, with Pastor Jane Zinken officiating. Interment will follow in the Grace Lutheran Cemetery. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Elmer Lutz, Harold Lutz, David Townsend, Randy Geisler, Marty Budge and Doug Webster. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Maksymiuk of CancerCare, Drs. Khaleifa, Ramadan, Steyn and Roets, all the nurses and staff at the Lakeshore General Hospital; also to Helen, Patsy and all the homecare workers for their loving care.
