SISTER MARIE SHEWCHUK, SSMI 1921 - 2007 Sister Marie Shewchuk died on July 27, 2007, in Seven Oaks Hospital in Winnipeg, MB. She was in her 87th year and 69th in religious life. Marie was born in Sheho, SK, near Yorkton, on March 2, 1921, daughter of Peter and Eudoxia (nee Sorochan). She completed her elementary and junior high school in Sheho, SK and her senior high school education in Foam Lake, SK, graduating in 1938. Marie entered the novitiate of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate in Mundare, AB, on September 6, 1938. She made first profession of vows on March 11, 1941, and final profession, August 15, 1947. Sister Marie was predeceased by her parents, and brothers Father Sebastian OSBM, Father Vladimir OSBM, Michael, Nicholas, Paul, Joseph. She is survived by two brothers and two sisters with their families: John (Victoria) and Boris, both of Winnipeg and Ollie Letersky (Michael) of Edmonton, AB and Anne Billas (George) of Richmond, BC. Prayers will be sung 5:00 p.m. Sunday, July 29 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 9:00 a.m. Monday, July 30 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Ave., with the Basilian Fathers officiating. Interment to follow in Holy Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sr. Marie's memory may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary School or Holy Family Nursing Home.
