NICHOLAS (NICK) KOCHANOWSKI October 10, 1922 to July 25, 2007 Passed away at the Seven Oaks General Hospital, after a lengthy illness with emphysema and dementia on July 25, 2007 at the age of 84 years, beloved husband of Mary. He is survived by his loving wife Mary of 61 years, three daughters: Theresa Summers, grandchildren, Kim Kivi (Derek), Chris (Candace); Margie Yurkowski (Jim), grandchildren, David and Steven; and Linda Chaikowski (Randy), grandchildren, Lorie, Holly and Corey; brother Bill Kane and sister Nettie Myseniuk, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son-in-law Clark Summers in 1992. He was predeceased by his father Mike in 1930 and his mother Mary. Dad was born in Winnipeg and had worked for the Canadian National Railway on what was referred to as the Extra Gang and then as a section man. He was in the army from 1942 until 1946 and then returned to the Railway working in the motor car shop in Fort Rouge and then in 1960 they moved to the new shop in Transcona. He retired in 1978 due to health problems. He belonged to the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way. He also belonged to the Ukrainian Catholic Parish of St. Josephat on Alverstone. Prayers will be held at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St., Winnipeg at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 29 and the funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 30 also at the chapel with Fr. Nestor Yakiwchuk officiating. Interment will be at the Glen Eden Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Chris Summers, David and Steven Yurkowski and Corey Chaikowski. Also sons-in-law, Jim Yurkowski and Randy Chaikowski. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St. or to the Lung Association Manitoba, 629 McDermot. We would also like to give a great big thank you to the staff at Holy Family Nursing Home for taking care of Dad during the past few years, especially his primary caregivers, David and Lorenzo. Also thank you to the Nursing Staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for the care given to him during his short period of time there. God saw you getting tired When a cure was not to be So He put His arms around you, And whispered Come to Me .
