Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVICTOR CLIFFORD LUNDSTROM It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Victor Clifford Lundstrom on July 20, 2007 in Winnipeg. Victor was born on May 27, 1923 in Eriksdale, Manitoba, the son of Oskar and Anna Lundstrom. Oskar and Anna came to Canada in 1914 with four children and had six more children in Canada, Victor being the second youngest of ten children. Victor grew up in Eriksdale, Elm Point and Steep Rock, helping support his family by commercial fishing on Lake Manitoba, cutting wood, raising cattle and farming. In 1942, he enlisted in the Canadian Army and was stationed overseas seeing action in France, Belgium and Germany during the Battle of the Bulge. After also serving in England, he returned to Canada and was discharged in February 1946. Victor returned home for about six months to see his mother and father, then headed to the Red Lake area and started working in the mines. He became one of the best miners in the Red Lake District winning the July 1st drilling contest numerous times. In Red Lake, Victor met Mildred Laforrest and on September 9, 1950 they were married in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. Victor and Mildred raised five children together. Victor worked in the mines sometimes for his brother Rickard, but also tried other things. He owned a grocery store in Petersfield, Manitoba for four years and a grocery store in Red Lake for a couple of years. Always a great father to his children, he helped them do it all: fishing, hunting, water skiing, snowmobiling, hockey, baseball, football and track and field. Victor was very active in the Legion. He helped build the new legion in Red Lake and is a Life Member. The last two years, Victor resided at the Deer Lodge Centre due to poor health, but still enjoyed visits from friends, relatives and his children and grandchildren. Victor was predeceased by his mother Anna Lundstrom; father Oskar Lundstrom; sisters, Frida, Nanna, Sonja, Eina (Lilla); brothers, Erik, Rickard, Karl; grandsons, David Richard Lundstrom and Aaron James Despres at birth. Victor is survived by his sisters, Edie Sheills and her children and their families; brother Henry and his children and their families. Mildred Lundstrom and Victors' children, Richard (Melody), Eddie (Donna), Lloyd, Anna Marie Gowriluk (Jim), Carolyn Despres (Blane); grandchildren, Jonathon (Jessica), Laura-Anne (Bruce), Per (Sharon) and William Lundstrom, Tracy McKenna (James); children, Fiona and Seamus, Amber Lundstrom, Louis and Scott Gowriluk, Chantal-Aimee and Robin Despres. Numerous nieces and nephews. A family funeral was held in Winnipeg on Friday, July 27, 2007 with interment at Steep Rock, Manitoba. The family would like to thank the staff at Catherine Place in Winnipeg where dad lived before going into Deer Lodge Centre. He thought the world of you. A special thanks to the staff of Tower 5, 5th Floor at the Deer Lodge Centre for your care of Victor. Thank you also to the staff at the Thomson Funeral Home. Dear Rick, Lloyd, Eddie and Carrie, My thoughts have been with you these last two weeks, as Mom has kept me informed. Your tribute to Victor, with you all coming together to honour him was lovely. I can still remember him rolling into the dining room at Raymond Place on his scooter and getting off it like it was a Harley Davidson. He still had a swagger and a twinkle in his eye. He really gave my mom some fun times when he lived there. Be gentle with yourselves. This is a big thing in your lives. God Bless, Linda - Posted by: Linda Lundström (Family) on: Aug 08, 2007
