THOMAS CLARK BARKER The family sadly announces Tom's passing at the Gimli Community Health Center on July 27, 2007. Left to mourn his passing is his loving wife Frances; dear children, Eileen; John and wife Deirdre and their son Ryan; Kathryn Wisse and husband Craig and their children, Brett and Erika. He also leaves one sister, Roberta Frith (Alex) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Rose Barker, his son Arthur and his sister Catherine Wade. Born in Penzance, SK on December 7, 1921 and raised there, he served in the RCAF from January, 1941 until the end of the war. Tom married Frances (nee Finnson) on July 24, 1948. Within two years they settled in Gimli and raised their family there. He worked as an electrician at CFB Gimli and later CFB Winnipeg. After officially retiring' in 1984, he continued as a self-employed electrician, doing work he enjoyed, to the time of his passing. Tom was past President of the Kinsmen Club, Past Master of the Viking Lodge No. 175 and served for 10 years on the board of directors of the Gimli Credit Union, including the role of President. He was a willing volunteer in numerous projects, whenever help was needed. He particularly enjoyed the time spent with fellow volunteers restoring Gimli Public School No. 15, the Gimli Unitarian Church and the Marine Museum. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 2 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gimli Lutheran Church, 50-3rd Ave. with Pastor Jaycen Snider officiating. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations in Tom's memory can be made to the Westshore Community Foundation Inc. or the St. Boniface Research Foundation. Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli in care of arrangements.
