She left this world peacefully with her family at her side, on July 27, 2007, at West Park Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, MB, in her 93rd year. Winnie was born to Helen and Fred Anderson on January 27, 1915, on the family farm in the Riverdale District south of Manitou. She received her education at the Riverdale School and worked in the area until her marriage to Jake Martens in 1940. While Jake was overseas she lived in Manitou and upon his return they moved to LaRiviere, where they raised their family and resided until they moved to Winnipeg in 1996. Winnie was an avid curler in her younger years, and enjoyed being an Armchair Curler all during her retirement years. Family was an important part of Winnie's life and she enjoyed family gatherings and made several trips to Camrose, Alberta, to visit her daughter Carol and family, as well as to her son Garry and family in Kingston, Ontario. Winnie enjoyed working as a nurses aid for many years in the Manitou Hospital prior to her retirement. Winnie is survived by her son Garry and his wife Maureen (Whyte) and her daughter Carol and her husband Dwayne Kinnaird. She also leaves to mourn six grandchildren, Angela, Jill (Brian Rice), Ryan, Jason, Curtis and Crystal, and four great-grandchildren, Julian and Sasha Rice and Ashley and Stephanie Ozment. Winnie's brother John Anderson and his wife Doreen, her sister Eileen Thomson, Winnie's sisters-in-law Anne Anderson and Mary Banman as well as many nieces and nephews are also left to mourn her passing. Winnie was predeceased by her parents Fred and Helen; her husband Jake; brothers, Charlie, Alfred, Tom, and Jim Anderson; and sister Peggy Bamford. The family would like to thank the staff of West Park Manor Personal Care Home for their excellent and loving care. Funeral to be held August 1, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. in LaRiviere United Church with Rev. Bev Simpson officiating. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Winnie's memory to the charity of your choice is appreciated. Graham Funeral Home of Pilot Mound is in charge of arrangements.
