Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN THERESA DALZIEL (nee ILASEWICH) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved aunt and sister, Jean Theresa Dalziel. Jean passed away peacefully at Calvary Place Personal Care Home on Tuesday, July 31, 2007. Jean will be deeply missed by her younger brother George Lash (Georgina) with Donna and family from Wasaga Beach, Ontario, nieces Beverley Schultz (Patrick Esler), Susan Katanna (Anno Westra) with Tara and Tyler, Donna Smith with Dana (Stephane) and Reid, Sandy Johnson (Robert) with Matthew and Lauren, Lillian Britton and family, nephews Jim Ilasewich (Carol) and family from Winnipeg, Bob and Lorne Jackson, and Ruku Ilasewich (with Neisha) in Ontario. Jean was born in McMunn, Manitoba on January 28, 1926 to Michael Ilasewich and Lena Palucka. Jean was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband, Robert Dalziel in April 1977, her wonderful friend Joseph P. Morris in 1994, her three brothers (John, Bill and Harry) and five sisters (Edna, Nettie, Mary, Kay and Grace) and most recently by nephew Alan Ilasewich and good friend George Smith. There are many friends (too many to mention) across the country who brought joy to Jean's life and who will now miss her presence and loving ways. There are also many special friends, most notably Jessie, Julia, Jackie, Gerard, Claire Marquis, Irene Podolsky, and adopted family Olga, Vlad, Nelia and Sophia who spent years living with or who brought special joy to Jean's life. Special thank you to Fr. Gerald Michaud for his visits, conversation and friendship which made Jean feel extra special. Good friend Trish O'Sullivan from London, England recently described Jean as such an unusual woman.an extraordinary persona very loved womanone of those people you only meet now and again. Jean had the capacity to generate and receive love and warmth from most everyone she met. She was a kind, gracious and gentle soul, a person of strong character and conviction, with a determination hard to match. Jean took on challenges most people would avoid. She spent many years in the hospitality business, including owning and managing Lyon's Sick Room Supplies on Sherbrook Street with her husband Bob. At age 65 she created and established her My Place, Pie Place restaurant on Portage Avenue with the help of her niece Sandy Johnson, so that people could enjoy having coffee and a good piece of pie. Jean felt especially honored to receive the Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Longevity Award in 1993. Jean and husband Bob loved to travel to various cities such as New York and San Francisco. Jean also visited England, Europe and Russia, spent months in the Bahamas and Hawaii, and lived in and traveled to various Canadian destinations. Jean was a talented artist with a flair for colour, and gifted with the ability to use color and design. She was also very interested in reading books of knowledge, so that she could speak intelligently on many subjects. Jean was a formidable scrabble player who loved to win, and her competitive spirit saw many a game last well into the late hours of the night. Jean had a quick wit, loved hugs and laughter, and she derived pleasure in having a good conversation with anyone from all walks of life. Over the years, Jean derived many hours of pleasure enjoying the company and antics of her two Birman cats, Bijou 1 and Bijou 2. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff and management of Calvary Place Personal Care Home for their warmth, compassion and kindness shown to Jean during her short stay there. Jean often said she also missed the time she spent at the Convalescent Home where she also found the staff very kind and thoughtful. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 3, 2007 at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Avenue, (Aubrey Street entrance) at 1:30 p.m., with viewing at 1:00 p.m. with interment at St. Mary's Cemetery on Osborne Street.
