NORMA LILLIAN MCEWEN (nee MATHEWS) Peacefully, on Thursday, August 2, 2007, with family by her side, Norma passed away at the Concordia Hospital, at the age of 78 years. Norma was born in Oakpoint, Manitoba, the eldest child of Sigurdur and Dora (nee Skagfeld) Mathews. She was predeceased by her husband Donald, daughter Gail, brother Hugh, and sister Bernice. Norma is survived and will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Joan (Doug); son Doug; grandchildren Stephanie, Melanie, Don and Eric; foster son Tom; brother Mindy (Trudy); sister Lorraine (Stewart) as well as many other relatives and friends. Norma was an active, loving, caring person who devoted much of her time volunteering and to her church. Norma began working for the Winnipeg School Division No. 1 on August 15, 1966 retiring on June 30, 1988 from the position of Budget Officer. She managed Bettelstadur Housing Co-op from 1989 until 1991. Norma was an elder of McClure United Church, a past Matron of Fort Garry Chapter No. 17, O.E.S., and treasurer of Jon Sigurdsson Chapter, IODE. In October, 2003, Norma was the proud recipient of the Co-operative Merit Award, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to cooperation and co-operative development. Norma will be sadly missed by family and friends. A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, August 8, at McClure United Church, 533 Greenwood Place, at 2:00 p.m. Norma's family would like to thank the staff as Health Sciences Centre and the ICU staff at Concordia Hospital for their compassionate care.
