HAZEL ISABELL WEBER (nee GAVEL) (1920 - 2007) Hazel Weber passed away peacefully at Riverview Health Centre Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, Manitoba on August 2, 2007. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years Howard Daniel Weber of Winnipeg, their daughters Janet (Sandy Hill) of Port Moody, BC and Patricia (Gary Martens) of Kleefeld, Manitoba, and their son John Weber of Fishers, Indiana, as well as their grandchildren Karen Hill, Warren Hill, John (Emilie Lemay) Martens, Becky (Robert) Guderian, Mark Weber, Melissa Weber. She was predeceased by her parents John and Estella Gavel of Regina, her two sisters Ruth Bell and Velma McIntosh and her granddaughter Laura Hill. Hazel was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on August 20th, 1920, and was baptized in the Regina First Baptist Church. Hazel was a stenographer for Mutual Life of Canada, and married Howard in 1943 during his RCAF service in Regina. Howard's employment with Mutual Life took them to various places throughout Canada, including Kitchener/ Waterloo, Fort William/Port Arthur, Calgary, Lethbridge, North Vancouver, Winnipeg, and Sarnia, retiring in Calgary, High River and finally Winnipeg (Portsmouth Retirement Residence). Hazel was a loving mother and grandmother, remembered for her kindness and thoughtfulness to her children and grandchildren. Despite living long distance , she constantly kept in touch with the grandchildren through special cards and treats in the mail. Hazel always found time to take care of her friends and neighbours wherever she lived. She loved to read, and always brought home boxes of books from the library for the entire family. She particularly enjoyed working part-time at Calgary Public Library during their retirement. Hazel and Howard enjoyed many winters in Venture Out, Mesa, Arizona and many summers at the cottage in Manitou Beach, Saskatchewan. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service for Hazel Weber will be held at Riverview Health Centre Chapel, 1 Morley Avenue on August 7, 2007 at 2:00 p.m., followed by refreshments in the Thomas Sill auditorium. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or to Riverview Health Centre. Many thanks to her homecare workers from the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority homecare program, her nurses and physicians during her respite at Meadowood and Deer Lodge, and the entire care-giving Team at her final home on A2 in Riverview Health Centre's Personal Care Home. Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolences at www.glenlawn.ca. I lift up my eyes to the hills - Where does my help come from?
