Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNICHOLAS ZALUCKY May 8, 1922 - July 31, 2007 With family by his side, our loving husband, father and grandfather peacefully passed away at home on July 31, 2007. Nicholas is survived by his wife Sylvia (nee Bewcyk) of 53 years; three sons, Daniel Zalucky and wife Teresa of Calgary (children Mark, Anna and Danylko), Peter Zalucky of Edmonton and Zenon Zalucky. He was predeceased by his beloved father Fedir; his mother Maria and his sister Halyna Kapustynska in Ukraine, and is survived by his sister Olga Konyk of France and sister Orysia Korpan of Ukraine. Nicholas was born in the village of Zahaitsi, Township of Pidhaitsi, Ukraine. He longed for a free and independent Ukraine (his dreams were fulfilled in 1991) and joined the OUN serving under General Konovaletz and Colonel Khmelnyk until arrested and placed in a concentration camp by the Bolsheviks. After escaping, he joined the British 8th Army Division and heroically served under General Bernard Montgomery where he survived the invasion of Italy in the battle of Monte Cassino. After the war, Nicholas left England for Brazil and later Argentina where he began his own machine shop business. He immigrated to Canada in 1951, eventually securing employment with Bristol Aerospace and marrying his devoted wife Sylvia. Retiring after 40 years of service with Bristol Aerospace, he enjoyed winter travels to Mexico, Venezuela and Florida. Summers were spent gardening, visiting BC and family in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Minnesota, fishing and relaxing at the cottage. Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 7 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 8 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor. Officiants will be Fr. Isidore Dziadyk, OSBM and Rev. Fr. Alexander Harkavyi. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
