Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN CARDIGAN (nee WARRENCHUK) Jean Cardigan passed away peacefully at Holy Family Nursing Home on Friday, August 3, 2007 at the age of 92. She leaves to mourn her son Bill (Barbara) in Toronto; daughters, Lynne Wakshinski (Jerry), Janice Cardigan Smith (Dick) and Debbie Parrish (Ion) all of Winnipeg, and seven grandchildren; Jason, Melissa (Brian), Rob, Ryan (Colette), Stacy, Blair and Kaitlin, as well as great-grandchildren, Jake and Avery. Jean is also survived by her sisters, Laurie Luba Turner and Dorothy Wynn; sister-in-law Ann Harany and good friends Gert and Bruce. She was predeceased by her husband William in 1978. Mom was born on March 16, 1915 in Winnipeg. She lived her early life in the heart of the North End, and later moved to Garden City. For a woman born early in the twentieth century, Mom was ahead of her time. She worked outside the home and raised her family with her husband Bill, instilling in them a sense of confidence, independence and respect for others. She took pride in her many skills, baking cookies, acting as hostess for her guests, and knitting. Those who received her knitted dolls will cherish them always. She loved to play bingo and was quite lucky especially in her birthday month. She loved to talk and tell her stories and share her wisdom with anyone who would listen. Jean was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren. The family would like to thank her special caregivers at Holy Family Nursing Home, St. Paul's wing, for their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean's memory to the Winnipeg Public Library-Donations , 251 Donald Street, Winnipeg MB R3C 3P5.
