IRENE SKURA (nee CHIHONIK) Our Mom, Irene, passed away in the early morning, Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at Riverview Health Centre. Mom was born in Oakbank, Manitoba, younger sister to Jessie, John, Kaye, Pete, Anne and Mary. Her brother Edward was born three years later, to whom she was a caring older sister. They grew up and worked together on the farm in Oakbank and remained close over the years. As a teenager, Mom and her older sister Mary, moved to Winnipeg where they worked as seamstresses in a sewing factory. After Mom and our Dad married in September, 1948, she continued to work and they saved towards building a home. When Robert was born in 1957 she became a full-time homemaker and three years later when Karen was born they moved into their dream house on Clyde Road, which Dad built. Before Dad's death in 1978, Mom had gone back to work as a seamstress at Sterling-Stall, where she worked until her retirement. She enjoyed going to work where she made many friends, enjoying the occasional lunch out - especially at Junior's! Over the years, Mom often spoke fondly of the ladies she had worked with. Even while working full-time, Mom excelled as a homemaker. She loved her home and loved to welcome people into it. No sooner had you sat down, there was a table full of food in front of you. Most of all, Mom was loving, kind, and strong. She taught us by example, by how she treated us and others. We are grateful to have had her as our mother. She was proud to be a grandmother - Nana - to Robert and daughter-in-law Cindy's children, Robert and Trista. Mom will be remembered by her sisters, Kaye Sitarz, Anne Barski, Mary (Walter) Korbaylo; brother Edward Chihonik and sister-in-law Anne Burek as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Flowers are gratefully declined, but donations to CancerCare Manitoba would be appreciated. We wish to thank Dr. N. Viallet and his nurse Michelle at CancerCare for their care and support and the many kind people we have met over the several months of Mom's illness. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 10, 2007, 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home with interment and reception to follow. Pallbearers will be Brian Korbaylo, Ron Burek, Glen Chliboyko, Tyler Chliboyko, Robert Skura Jr., and Todd Kroeger; honorary pallbearer David Korbaylo. Arrangements entrusted to: Glen Eden Funeral Home 4477 Main St. 338-7111
