DOROTHY ELEANOR BANKS (nee GOODMAN) May 15, 1910 August 6, 2007 It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of Dorothy Banks in the early hours of Monday, August 6, 2007. Dorothy was born on the homestead farm of pioneering parents. She attended the local one room school at Thunder Hill and high school in Benito. She married Sam Banks on June 20, 1933, and moved into the little house' on the Banks farm to start a long and happy married life. Dorothy's home and kitchen were always open to family, neighbours, friends and passers-by but her interests went far beyond the kitchen as she was very active in the operation of their large mixed farm. Dorothy participated in many community activities including the Women's Institute and the Anglican Church. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star for over 50 years. She enjoyed square dancing, handicrafts and games of every kind at which she would excel. Dorothy and Sam's retirement winters were spent at the Pine to Palm Resort in Texas where they made many special friends. Summers were spent at the farm picking raspberries, enjoying grandchildren and growing a huge garden to fill two freezers. In 1994 Dorothy and Sam moved to the Fort Garry Place Senior's Complex in Winnipeg where they quickly became part of the social activities. They joined St. Philips Anglican Church and once again made special friends. Dorothy especially enjoyed her ladies card group', the upstairs church services, the Lions Place Adult Day Club and as always, entertaining her family and friends. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Sam; her father and mother Henry and Jeanette Goodman; brothers, Allan, Ted (Gwen), Bill (Helen), Charlie (Daisy); sisters, Phyllis (Gilbert) Martin, Jean (Ralph) Jacobs, and Sam's sister Marj (Herb) Schneider. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Leone; son David (Joan); grandchildren: Douglas, Arda and Ella Thomson; Andrew, Sharon and Grace Thomson; David, Cynthia, Hugh and Kate Thomson; Tom, Mary Lou, Daniel, Adam and Michael Banks; Janice, David, Jennifer and Erin Loukras; Warren, Tara, Ethan and Ella Banks. Dorothy also leaves to mourn her first cousin Hubert (Esther) Munson; sister-in-law Ester Goodman, and her close nephews and nieces and their families. A special thank you is extended to Alvin Jacobs, Melba Tibble and Wendy Wilson for their love and attention over the years. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 11 at 4:00 p.m. at St. James Anglican Church in Swan River, Manitoba, followed by interment at Riverside Cemetery in Thunder Hill. Pallbearers will be Janice Loukras, Tom Banks, Andrew Thomson, David Thomson, Alex Goodman and Calvin Goodman.
