Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDWARD (ED) JOSEPH ZWARTZ It is with great sadness the family of Ed Zwartz announces his sudden passing on Sunday, August 5, 2007, at the Grace Hospital at the age of 73 years. Remaining to forever cherish Ed's memory are his wife Margaret, of 48 years of marriage; sons Edward (Shelley) Deanna, Lauren and Ian of Mississauga, Gordon (Sally) Abigail of Albuquerque; daughters Pamela (Norman Erskine) Kyle and Katherine of Calgary and Elizabeth - Anne of Winnipeg. Born in Selkirk, Manitoba, Ed moved to Fort William, Ontario, at an early age, finally residing in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Mom and Dad met in Port Arthur, Ontario, in 1956, they began their married life in 1959 and just enjoyed being with each other. Ed began his career in the Armed Forces in 1953. He was commissioned from the ranks and retired in 1981, with the rank of Captain. Ed then worked for the Manitoba Government. Ed was a devoted father, who was always involved in his children's activities, never missing a game or competition. He even learned how to Highland dance. Family camping trips with Dad were always an adventure. Ed was happiest in his garden, always growing too many vegetables. Dad enjoyed making handicrafts for his children and grandchildren. He loved animals and was frequently seen taking his cats for a walk. Ed enjoyed speaking to everybody. He was heavily involved in the Catholic church his entire life. Ed was a member of St. Charles Parish and Men's Club; he was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 4. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 15 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, 320 St. Charles Street, with Rev. Fr. R. Glofcheski, presiding. Inurnment will follow in Chapel Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Portage Avenue. We would like to send a special thank you to our neighbour, Ruth Hansen, who was there for Ed in his time of need.
