JEREMY JOHN WATSON September 21, 1940 - August 6, 2007 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jeremy John Watson, a loving father, granddad, and uncle. He was predeceased by his father Arthur Charsley Watson, mother Mary Emma Watson (nee Hadith), brother Charsley (Chuck) Watson and niece Carole. Jeremy is deeply mourned and remembered by his partner Marlene Stratton, daughter Jennifer, son John, and all of his and Marlene's family. He was a quiet easygoing man who really enjoyed life in its simplicity. Jeremy was born in Eriksdale, Manitoba, and while growing up in Winnipeg spent much of his early years with cousins in Scotch Bay. He enjoyed many visits back to the area, including hunting trips with his dad which were a favourite pastime. Jeremy was a great debater, spending many long hours in conversation with his brother Chuck, over many cups of coffee. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge (Fort Garry), the Shriners, and later in life, the Eastern Star (Selkirk). Jeremy's career and passion in life was teaching. He taught for over 30 years in the Winnipeg School Division including Springfield Collegiate, Gordon Bell High School, Isaac Newton Jr. High and Stanley Knowles from where he retired in 1999. Jeremy continued to substitute for many years in the Interlake from his home in Arborg, teaching both in Teulon and Arborg. His dedication to his students was evident in the way he approached his classes, working each day under the philosophy that they don't care what you know until they know that you care. An avid writer, backyard mechanic and above all a reader, Jeremy enjoyed taking time to learn and talk about new ideas and projects to undertake, ranging from writing short stories to woodworking, garage sales and small engine repair. Gardening was one of his favourite hobbies and no summer meal was ever quite complete without something grown in the backyard. He took great interest in the activities and lives of all those close to him. We will miss him dearly and remember him always. Remember by Christina Rosetti Remember me when I am gone away, Gone far away into the silent land; When you can no more hold me by the hand, Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay. Remember me when no more day by day You tell me of our future that you plann'd: Only remember me; you understand It will be late to counsel then or pray. Yet if you should forget me for a while And afterwards remember, do not grieve: For if the darkness and corruption leave A vestige of the thoughts that once I had, Better by far you should forget and smile Than that you should remember and be sad. A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 18 at 2:00 p.m. at the Arborg Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, and if friends so wish, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
