G.W. DAVID ROSS (Caribou Clan) May 14, 1964 August 9, 2007 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of G.W. David Ross who left us suddenly Thursday, August 9, 2007 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. He leaves to mourn, his loving family and is survived by beloved daughters, Gloria and Noreen; brothers and sisters, Donald, Leonard (Jane), Corrine, Conrad, Darlene (Noel), Elaine Jewel , Marion, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He is predeceased by his daughter Kim; brother Harold; mother Marie Ross, father Harvey Redsky; paternal grandparents, Arthur and Margaret Redsky (nee Blackhawk); maternal grandparent,: Joseph and Harriet Ross (nee Chena); aunt Audrey Ross and uncles Angus Kelly, Thomas Ross and David J. Ross. Dave was an eloquent speaker and sometimes his extensive vocabulary forced us to refer to the dictionary. He will be remembered for his love of education and his dedication to youth and their needs. He worked tirelessly for Northwest Angle #33 First Nation in every capacity. He was known as someone who was able and willing to cross barriers for the sake of his people. He worked closely with Anishinaabeg of Kabapikotawangag (AKRC) communities' vision and protocol. Dave worked as a Teacher's Aide at Argyle High School in Winnipeg. He went on to assist with the research on the effects of the Indian Residential School System with the University of Saskatchewan bringing to light some of the experiences of this era. He also worked on the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples. He worked for various First Nations in Manitoba and Ontario as a consultant for Hobbs and Associates. Active pallbearers are David Paul Jr., Don Morrison, Wesley Big George, Donald Ballyk, Hughie Ross and Innes Sandy. Honorary pallbearers are Kendall Paul, Harold Sonny Cochrane, Brian Kemp, Sam Copenace, Candace Tucker, Audrey Duval and Rachel Redsky, Ron and Fern Henderson The wake will be held on Monday, August 13, 2007 at the Golden Eagle Casino, Wauzhushk Onigum First Nation, followed by a Traditional Ceremony on Tuesday, August 14, 2007. Interment to follow at Lake of the Woods Cemetery, Kenora. Arrangements entrusted to Brown's Funeral Home Cremation Centre, Kenora
