Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJULIE KURTH (nee JUNG) July 12, 1912 August 9, 2007 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Julie Uschi Kurth on August 9, 2007 at the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg. Uschi will be lovingly remembered by her two grandsons, Mario (Lori) and Ralph (Saundra) as well as her great-grandchildren, Sydney, Madison and Riley and her dear friend Anni Frenk. Uschi was predeceased by her parents, Marie and Otto Jung; her brother Rudolph; her husband Hans; her stepson Gunter and his wife Margot. Uschi was born in Frankfurt on July 12, 1912. In her early years, she worked as a Kindergarten teacher and spent time in Spain, working as an au pair. While in Germany she married Hans Kurth and together in June of 1953 they immigrated to Canada settling in Winnipeg. After arriving in Winnipeg, Hans and Uschi worked at a wide variety of jobs in order to establish themselves in their new country. Beginning in the late 1960s they became actively involved with the German Society of Winnipeg and specifically the formation of the Mardi Gras Association - Der Treuer Hauser. Uschi also hosted a popular weekly German language radio show for many years and had many loyal listeners. Uschi had a love of animals that included several pet poodles over the years. But probably her greatest love was gardening, spending countless hours tending to her gardens at the cottage located at Beaconia. Uschi also had a passion for travelling, making many trips across Canada, Europe, the United States and Mexico. A family graveside memorial service will be held at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba 10 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. The family would like to thank the staff of the Middlechurch home for caring for Uschi. Special thanks also go to Liz Williams for being such a loving and caring friend to Uschi.
