MARGARET FLORA JANE PLOUFFE (nee SMITH) Margaret, our Mother, Mum, Gramma, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2007, in Riverview Health Care Centre, after a well fought battle with cancer, with her family by her side. She was born January 1, 1916, in Winnipeg, to George Albert Smith and Blanche Curran Smith, lived in Fort Rouge until her marriage to Steve in 1931, and spent the rest of her life in Fort Garry. Mum is survived by her daughters Eleanore Kelly (Murray), Dorothy Erb (Gary), Roberta Van Aert (Jim) and sons Wayne (Peggy) and Steven. There are 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson and many nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, a son Robert in 1938, daughter Blanche, her brothers Harold and Ernest, sister Georgina and grandsons Kelly Erb and Jamie Van Aert. Her husband Steve predeceased her on February 28, 2005. Mum loved bingo, horse racing, going to the casinos but most of all having her family around her. Over the years we all had our fair share of her bannock - she always had extra for someone to take home. There were always treats for the wee ones . . . there weren't any no-nos at Gramma's. Her last few months were not easy ones for her, as such an outgoing person to be confined to her bed. She is now happily reunited with Steve, Blanche, Robert and other family who went before her. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Vital Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Patrick A Morand officiating. The family would like to thank Sara and Anne of the Rotary Villa for their loving care and friendship - your thoughtfulness was much appreciated by Mum and all of us; also special thanks to all the caregivers in her recent past for their kindness and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rotary Villa Social Club or to the Fort Garry Legion No. 90.
