JAN (JOHN) ZAKLIKOCKI Peacefully at Victoria Hospital on Saturday, August 11, 2007, Jan (John) Zaklikocki passed away after a lengthy struggle with Parkinson's and heart disease. Dad was born in Mosciska, Poland on November 9, 1912, and immigrated to Canada in 1949. He was employed by Winnipeg Hydro from 1953 to 1976 where he worked at the downtown Steam Plant. Times were especially trying back then - the Second World War had ended, the memory of the internment camps was still lingering in his mind, starting a new life in a new country, a young wife and three young children to worry about - but Dad could always be caught singing in the kitchen while doing the dishes. Dad had particular fondness for animals - from birds to dogs to horses and everything in between. A lot of people shake hands and interpret those handshakes in different ways in weeks to come, but one always knew where they stood with Dad because his firm handshake indicated that he had given his word; and his word was his bond. Dad had a strong faith in God and this gentle soul will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched. Dad is survived by his wife of 61 years, Anne; and his children, Josef (Margaret), Richard, and Danusia (Daniel); five grandchildren (Christopher, Sheryl, Dean, Laura, and Hannah); and two great-grandchildren (Jessica and Anthony). Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue, on Thursday, August 16, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. with an Oblate Father officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery. We would like to thank Dad's homecare providers and especially the care extended by the nurses and staff of the Victoria Hospital's 4th Floor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to the Parkinson Society Canada, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, or the charity of your choice.
