EDWARD (ALBY) SEMMER Peacefully on August 10, 2007, with his family by his side, Alby passed away at the Riverview Health Centre. He was 81 years of age. Alby was predeceased by his daughter Jodine (Jody) on October 31, 2004; sisters Jean, Rose, Bertha, and Nellie. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Vivian; children Tracy Semmer (the late Brett Taylor), Corey (Dave) Martin; grandchildren Lucas (Laura) Buller, Jonas Buller, Jarrett Martin, Carly Martin, and great-granddaugher Hanna Buller. Alby is also survived by his sister-in-law Janet Swallow, her daughters Persephone (Steven) and Antigone (daughter Haley); niece Joannie Clifton and nephew Bob Stasyna. Alby was born in Winnipeg in 1925 to parents John and Katherine. He was a physical training instructor in the Navy, and served on the HMCS Cornwallis from 1942 to 1945. His time in the Navy brought him to many places including Ottawa, Nova Scotia, and Quebec. Upon his return to Winnipeg, Alby was employed with the CPR for over 38 years. Alby was an avid sportsman and a naturally gifted athlete. He was passionate about bodybuilding, hockey, and golf. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking and gardening. Alby was known for his charismatic smile and willing nature to help family, friends and neighbours. In his later years Alby was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Dad loved entering any contest regardless of prizes. He was always competitive by nature and could often be found entering the entire family's names in contests. Alby and Vivian also enjoyed travelling. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to medical staff at Concordia Hospital, CancerCare and Riverview Health Centre, 3 East. At Edward's request cremation and a private family service has taken place. In lieu of flowers donations in Edward's memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.
