TED WALTER SOBKOWICH Quietly, on Monday, August 13, 2007, Ted Sobkowich passed away at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 73. He is survived by his sons, Ted and Perry (Cindy); grandchildren, Hanna and Evan; brother Carl (Shirley) Sobkowicz; sister Patsy (David) Moskal; sisters-in-law, Sharon Sobkowicz and Violet Worthington; close friend Simone Allen; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Edna (1990), father Mike (1972), mother Anne (2002), and brother Albin (2004). Ted was born September 20, 1933, on a farm outside of Hubbard, SK. Raised and schooled in the area, he played baseball and hockey. When young, Ted and his brother Carl traveled by train to Winnipeg for violin lessons. Ted and his family moved to Winnipeg in 1970. Ted worked for C.N.R. for over 40 years as a Station Agent, working in many small towns in Alberta, Saskatchewan and western Ontario, and as a Train Dispatcher in Winnipeg. His passion for trains carried into volunteering for the Prairie Dog Central as a Porter in the infamous Car 106. In addition he belonged to the Morse Telegraph Club, Winnipeg Modular Club and Winnipeg Model Railway Club. He was a longtime member of Sherwood Park Lutheran Church. A memorial service will be on Thursday, August 16 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. A funeral service will be held at Ituna, SK, on Saturday, August 18. Flowers gratefully declined, instead please make a donation in Ted's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON109, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
